The launch of Bridging Histories Ghana took place today Friday, May 16, 2025 at the Okaikwei North Municipal Assembly, marking the beginning of a new initiative aimed at celebrating cultural heritage, fostering community cohesion, and empowering the youth.

Opening the event, Hon. Christian Tetteh Badger, Municipal Chief Executive of Okaikwei North, expressed his support for the project.

He stated, “This launch is a vital step toward building inclusive communities where our heritage is cherished, and our young people are inspired to be positive changemakers.”

He emphasized the importance of strong partnerships and community involvement in realizing the program’s goals.

Hon. Theresa Lardi Awuni, Member of Parliament for Okaikwei North, also commended the initiative.

She highlighted the significance of storytelling in bridging cultural divides, saying, “Bridging Histories provides a powerful platform to challenge stereotypes, foster understanding, and celebrate our diversity.”

The highlight of the event was an interactive storytelling activity led by Dr. Joana M. Burch-Brown, Founder of Bridging Histories.

Participants shared stories about their cultural backgrounds, traditions, and history, illustrating the power of narratives in creating unity and pride.

In a brief interview, Dr. Burch-Brown shared that the project originated in Bristol, UK, as a response to colonial history and acts of cultural repair.

She explained, “Bridging Histories seeks to reconnect communities through shared stories, indigenous wisdom, and mutual understanding, starting here in Ghana to promote reconciliation and social cohesion.”

The event also announced a partnership with the Rwandan Municipal Assembly to support initiatives on environmental sustainability and youth development, underlining the program’s wide-ranging impact.

Concluding his remarks, Hon. Badger urged everyone to see the initiative as a “bridge—connecting the past with the present, and communities with a shared vision for the future.”

Participants left inspired, ready to support and participate in ongoing activities.

Today’s launch sets the stage for Bridging Histories Ghana to become a catalyst for cultural revival, social unity, and youth empowerment across the nation.
