Ghana is gearing up to host a momentous event that will shape the future of the cashew industry within the country and beyond.

In a press conference held at the Ministry of Food and Agriculture on April 10, 2024, Mr. Yaw Oteng, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer for Finance and Administration of the Ghana Tree Crop Development Authority (TCDA), revealed plans for the Sixth Council of Ministers’ Conference of the Consultative International Cashew Council (CICC), set to take place in Accra from April 16 to 20, 2024.

Deputy Chief Executive Officer for Finance and Administration of the Ghana Tree Crop Development Authority (TCDA), Mr. Yaw Oteng, has revealed that Ghana is set to host the upcoming Sixth Council of Ministers’ Conference of the Consultative International Cashew Council (CICC).

This historic event, he indicated will mark a turning point in the agricultural history of the nation will be accompanied by an exhibition, a cashew fair, and a dialogue on research on cashews.

Established in 2016 with 11 member countries, the CICC is dedicated to promoting and supporting the development of the cashew sector, aiming to contribute to economic and social growth within member states.

Focused on advocacy, knowledge sharing, innovation, and partnership, the CICC plays a crucial role in shaping the global cashew value chain.

Addressing the press at the Ministry of Food and Agriculture conference room in Accra on Wednesday, April 10, Mr. Oteng emphasized that Ghana’s role as the host of this esteemed conference underscores its commitment to advancing the cashew sector and showcasing its potential on an international stage.

The event is expected to highlight the progress made in Ghana’s cashew industry and attract potential investors, paving the way for future growth and development.

The Cashew Research Dialogue, set to precede the main conference, will provide a platform for ministers, experts, and researchers from member countries to exchange knowledge, discuss achievements, and identify areas for further research and development in the cashew industry.

Mr. Oteng emphasized that this collaborative effort will help inform policy decisions and investment strategies, driving innovation and sustainability in the sector.

Simultaneously, the Cashew Expo and Exhibition, themed “Projecting the Cashew Sector through Local Consumption, Value Addition, and Job Creation,” will showcase a diverse range of cashew products, educate the public on their benefits, and connect local processors with potential markets.

This initiative aims to boost local consumption, enhance value addition, and create opportunities for small and medium-sized cashew processors.

Ghana anticipates significant benefits from hosting these events, including increased visibility, foreign investment, and market expansion for its cashew industry.

It is anticipated that the conference will establish Ghana as a major participant in the production and trade of cashews, promoting growth along the entire value chain and helping all parties involved.

Together with the Cashew Research Dialogue, Cashew Fair, and Exhibition, the Sixth Council of Ministers’ Conference of the CICC is expected to be a game-changing occasion that establishes Ghana as a center for cashew trade, innovation, and production.
