Pressure group Arise Ghana has announced plans to picket the United States Embassy in Accra on Tuesday to demand the arrest and extradition of former Finance Minister, Mr Ken Ofori-Atta, to Ghana to face alleged financial impropriety.

The demonstration, scheduled for 0800 hours, will be held under the hashtag #BringBackKenOfori-Atta, and forms part of the group’s broader advocacy for accountability and the rule of law.

Speaking ahead of the protest, a leading member of Arise Ghana, Comrade Selorm Dramani Dramado, said the picket was intended to draw international attention to the demand for justice and cooperation.

“The picket is a peaceful civic action to demand accountability and to call for cooperation from relevant authorities should extradition processes be initiated,” he said.

According to Arise Ghana, the decision to picket the American Embassy was to reinforce the principle that no individual should be beyond the reach of the law.

The group has called on its members, civil society organisations and concerned citizens to participate in the demonstration, which it says will be peaceful and lawful.

Arise Ghana said the action formed part of its ongoing civic campaign to promote accountability, transparency and respect for the rule of law in Ghana.
