In a pivotal move for Ghana’s non-profit sector, Dr. Joseph Kobla Wemakor, the Executive Director of Human Rights Reporters Ghana (HRRG), has been appointed to a newly formed Technical Advocacy Working Group.

This group is tasked with spearheading the passage of the Non-Profit Organization (NPO) draft Bill, a significant legislative effort aimed at enhancing the operational landscape for non-profits in the country.

The announcement came during the Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) Zonal Consultations held on February 27, 2025, at the GNAT Hall National Headquarters.

The group comprises an inclusive lineup of five members, featuring two men, two women, and a representative from the Persons Living with Disabilities (PLWDs) community, reflecting a commitment to diversity and inclusiveness.

The distinguished members of the Technical Advocacy Working Group include:

– Isaac Boison, Coordinator of the Greater Accra Regional Youth Network (GARYN)

– Dr. Joseph Kobla Wemakor, Founder and Executive Director of Human Rights Reporters Ghana

– Hon. Afisa Otiko Djaba, Former Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection

– Priscilla AKofa Agbenu, from the Centre for Women in Development and Public Policy

– Elvis Kosi Alipkui, representing Persons Living with Disabilities as a member of the Ghana Federation of Disability Organizations

The formation of this advocacy group builds on prior consultations held in Kumasi on February 18 and Tamale on February 25.

These gatherings brought together thousands of civil society representatives who engaged in meaningful dialogue to craft a comprehensive advocacy strategy for the NPO Bill.

A critical outcome of these discussions was the establishment of an Advocacy Committee designed to unify efforts and ensure that the NPO Bill not only regulates non-profits but also facilitates their growth and sustainability in Ghana.

With Dr. Wemakor leading this important initiative, the advocacy group is poised to make substantial strides in advancing the NPO Bill, ultimately transforming the non-profit sector and enhancing its contributions to the nation’s growth and future.
