World Vision Ghana, Partners Host Maiden Transformative WASH Investment Summit

<p><strong>In a significant stride towards improving water&comma; sanitation&comma; and hygiene &lpar;WASH&rpar; services nationwide&comma; World Vision Ghana successfully convened a pivotal Marketing and Investment Summit on September 12&comma; 2024&comma; at the Labadi Beach Hotel&period;<&sol;strong><&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>The event gathered a diverse array of stakeholders&comma; including development partners&comma; corporate representatives&comma; NGOs&comma; and private sector leaders&comma; to explore investment opportunities outlined in the Metropolitan&comma; Municipal&comma; and District Assemblies &lpar;MMDA&rpar; Water Sanitation and Hygiene Investment Plans&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>Speaking on the sidelines of a successful event&comma; Water&comma; Sanitation and Hygiene &lpar;WASH&rpar; Technical Specialist at World Vision Ghana&comma; Mr&period; Yaw Attah Arhin&comma; emphasized the critical nature of the investment plans&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>&OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;These plans are essential for understanding where each district currently stands in terms of water and sanitation&comma; identifying existing gaps&comma; and determining the resources needed to achieve our objectives&comma;” he stated&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>With these investment plans established&comma; the summit shifted focus to marketing initiatives aimed at attracting potential partners&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>He articulated the objective&comma; saying&comma; &OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;We aim to unite private sector investors&comma; philanthropists&comma; and NGOs to collaborate with the MMDAs&comma; enhancing access to WASH services that are vital for socio-economic development and improved health outcomes&period;”<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>A major concern raised during the summit was the detrimental impact of illegal small-scale mining&comma; commonly known as &OpenCurlyQuote;Galamsey&comma;’ on Ghana’s water resources&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>Mr&period; Arhin expressed his alarm over this issue&comma; stating&comma; &OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;As development partners and NGOs&comma; we have made significant investments in the WASH sector&comma; and any threat to these essential services is deeply concerning&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>Our vision is to ensure that every child experiences life in all its fullness&comma; and pollution of our water bodies jeopardizes that vision&period;”<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>He urged the government to intensify efforts against illegal mining&comma; calling for a strong commitment to safeguard Ghana’s water resources&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>&OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;We must prioritize this as a national development issue&period; With sustained commitment&comma; we can overcome this challenge&comma;” he asserted&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>The summit also featured insights from Emefa Adjoa Baidoo&comma; Deputy Chief of Party for Global Communities on the Enhancing WASH Activity Project&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>She hailed the summit as a &OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;major milestone” for the WASH sector&comma; enabling MMDAs to effectively market their investment plans&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>&OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;The WASH investment plans outline strategies for implementing sustainable water and sanitation initiatives that ensure access for vulnerable and marginalized populations&comma;” she noted&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>Mrs Baidoo expressed optimism about the potential outcomes of the summit&comma; highlighting the untapped capacity and resources within MMDAs that could greatly benefit from strategic partnerships with the private sector&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>&OpenCurlyDoubleQuote;Identifying gaps and building capacity within MMDA infrastructure has revealed a wealth of opportunities in the water sector&comma;” she added&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>As the summit concluded&comma; discussions centered on how stakeholders can collaborate to promote investment in WASH programs that serve Ghanaian communities&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>Participants underscored the critical need for ongoing cooperation to improve access to water&comma; sanitation&comma; and hygiene services&comma; thereby safeguarding the health and future of Ghana’s children and families&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>The palpable commitment from all stakeholders to tackle existing challenges highlighted a shared vision for enhanced access to essential services across the nation&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>&nbsp&semi;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>Source&colon;Joseph Kobla Wemakor<&sol;p>&NewLine;
