Dr. Joseph Wemakor takes on leadership role in new advocacy group for Ghana’s NPO bill

<p><strong>In a pivotal move for Ghana’s non-profit sector&comma; Dr&period; Joseph Kobla Wemakor&comma; the Executive Director of Human Rights Reporters Ghana &lpar;HRRG&rpar;&comma; has been appointed to a newly formed Technical Advocacy Working Group&period;<&sol;strong><&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>This group is tasked with spearheading the passage of the Non-Profit Organization &lpar;NPO&rpar; draft Bill&comma; a significant legislative effort aimed at enhancing the operational landscape for non-profits in the country&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>The announcement came during the Civil Society Organizations &lpar;CSOs&rpar; Zonal Consultations held on February 27&comma; 2025&comma; at the GNAT Hall National Headquarters&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>The group comprises an inclusive lineup of five members&comma; featuring two men&comma; two women&comma; and a representative from the Persons Living with Disabilities &lpar;PLWDs&rpar; community&comma; reflecting a commitment to diversity and inclusiveness&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>The distinguished members of the Technical Advocacy Working Group include&colon;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>&nbsp&semi;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>&&num;8211&semi; Isaac Boison&comma; Coordinator of the Greater Accra Regional Youth Network &lpar;GARYN&rpar;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>&&num;8211&semi; Dr&period; Joseph Kobla Wemakor&comma; Founder and Executive Director of Human Rights Reporters Ghana<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>&&num;8211&semi; Hon&period; Afisa Otiko Djaba&comma; Former Minister of Gender&comma; Children and Social Protection<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>&&num;8211&semi; Priscilla AKofa Agbenu&comma; from the Centre for Women in Development and Public Policy<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>&&num;8211&semi; Elvis Kosi Alipkui&comma; representing Persons Living with Disabilities as a member of the Ghana Federation of Disability Organizations<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>The formation of this advocacy group builds on prior consultations held in Kumasi on February 18 and Tamale on February 25&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>These gatherings brought together thousands of civil society representatives who engaged in meaningful dialogue to craft a comprehensive advocacy strategy for the NPO Bill&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>A critical outcome of these discussions was the establishment of an Advocacy Committee designed to unify efforts and ensure that the NPO Bill not only regulates non-profits but also facilitates their growth and sustainability in Ghana&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<p>With Dr&period; Wemakor leading this important initiative&comma; the advocacy group is poised to make substantial strides in advancing the NPO Bill&comma; ultimately transforming the non-profit sector and enhancing its contributions to the nation’s growth and future&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;
